Raipur division will not face water shortage for irrigation even if there is irregular rainfall
Raipur. Even if the rainfall is less or irregular, the farmers of Raipur division will get enough water for irrigation of their crops. According to the rainfall so far, about 90 percent of the dams and reservoirs of Raipur division have been filled with water on an average. Divisional Commissioner Mahadev Kavre reviewed it today and gave necessary instructions to the officials of the Water Resources Department. Mr. Kavre took separate information about the water filled in the dams and reservoirs of the division so far and instructed to be ready to provide water for irrigation in the farmers’ fields if required. He gave clear instructions in the meeting that due to the rain so far, there has been sufficient water filling in the dams and reservoirs and now in case of less rain or irregular rain, the crops of the farmers should not be damaged. In such a situation, the department should be ready to provide water for irrigation by opening the gates of the dams on the demand of the farmers. Shri Kavre instructed the officials of the Water Resources Department to keep a constant watch on the water filling situation in the dams and also to make all security arrangements. He also instructed the officials to inform the Revenue Department officials before releasing large amounts of water from big dams and to disseminate information in the affected areas by making announcements etc.
In the meeting, the officials of the Water Resources Department informed that 90 percent water has been filled in the Ravishankar Sagar Project Complex so far. This project irrigates about 2 lakh 80 thousand hectares of land in more than 1300 villages of Raipur, Dhamtari and Baloda Bazar districts of the division. The officials also informed that on the demand of the farmers, five and a half thousand cusecs of water has been released in the canal for irrigation by opening the gates of this project. The officials also informed that 95 percent water has been filled in the Sikasar project of Gariaband district. About three thousand cusecs of water has been released in the canal from this project. Due to which crops of more than 26 thousand hectares of more than one hundred villages are being irrigated. It was also informed in the meeting that 71 percent water has been filled in the Pendravan project of Raipur district and 98 percent in Kumhari medium project. On the demand of farmers, 40 cusecs of water has been released in the canal from the Pendravan project. Due to which farmers of eleven villages are irrigating crops of two and a half thousand hectares of area. 90 cusecs of water has been released in the canal from the Kumhari project and due to this, farmers of 18 villages are irrigating crops grown in about two thousand six hundred hectares of area.
During the review of water filling in the reservoirs of Mahasamund district, it was informed that about 44 percent water has been filled in the Kodar major project and about 48 percent in the Keshava project. Officials said that according to the rain so far, the water filling of both the projects is currently in a satisfactory condition as per the topography and land condition. 150 cusecs of water has been released into the canal from the Kodar project, due to which crops in more than sixteen and a half thousand hectares of area in 49 villages are being irrigated. Similarly, preparations have been completed to provide water for irrigation from the Keshava project on the demand of farmers. On demand by farmers, water will be provided from this project for crops grown in about three thousand seven hundred and fifty hectares of area.
