Bilaspur. South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has delivered an outstanding performance in the first quarter of the financial year 2024-25, achieving highest ever coal production, dispatch and OBR in any quarter since company’s inception.
SECL’ coal production touched a new high at 41.95 million tonnes, the highest in any quarter since inception. Notably, in the recently concluded month of June, SECL produced over 14 million tonnes of coal, marking the highest coal production ever recorded in any June month.
In addition to its impressive coal production, SECL has supplied a record 47.50 million tonnes of coal to power plants nationwide during the April-June 2024 quarter. This represents a significant increase of over 7% compared to the same period last year.
SECL has also excelled in overburden removal (OBR), recording the highest ever 92.32 million cubic meters of OBR in the quarter ended June 2024. This is an increase of 6.35 million cubic meters (7.3%) compared to the same quarter of the previous financial year. Furthermore, SECL set a new record for the highest OBR in any June month with 31.33 million cubic meters, a substantial increase from the 26.04 million cubic meters achieved in June last year, representing a more than 20% increase.
In the last financial year 2023-24, SECL achieved a record coal production of 187 million tonnes, an increase of over 20 million tonnes for the second consecutive year, the highest in the company’s history. For the financial year 2024-25, SECL has been assigned an annual target of 206 million tonnes of coal production.
