Manele elected new Prime Minister of Solomon Islands

Honiara. Jeremiah Manele was elected the new Prime Minister of Solomon Islands on Thursday. Solomon Islands Governor General David Vunagi has announced this. Mr Manele defeated opposition leader Matthew Wale by 18 votes to 31 in the newly elected 50-seat parliament, Mr Vunagi said after a secret ballot on Thursday morning. One member of Parliament abstained from voting.
