6511 new General Coaches added to Indian Railways fleet

Indian Railways has introduced state-of-the-art technology enabled Amrut Bharat Services equipped with advanced features like semi-permanent coupler, horizontally sliding windows, foldable dining table and bottle holder, mobile holder for hassle-free travel. Currently, 4 Amrut Bharat Express services namely 15557/58 Darbhanga-Anand Vihar (T) Express and 13433/13434 Malda Town-SMVT Bengaluru Express are being operated in the Indian Railways network. Further, introduction of train services including Amrut Bharat Services is a part of a continuous process in Indian Railways which is subject to passenger traffic, operational feasibility, availability of resources.

The existing policy regarding composition of Mail/Express trains provides for 12 General and Sleeper class non-AC coaches and 08 AC coaches in a train of 22 coaches, thereby providing more convenience to passengers using General and Non-AC Sleeper coaches. Currently, two-thirds of the total coaches being used to run train services are non-AC, and one-third are AC variants. Keeping in view the increasing demand, Indian Railways has planned to manufacture 10,000 non-AC coaches including general class and sleeper class coaches.

This generated transport capacity depends on various factors including route, frequency of service etc.

This information was given by the Minister of Railways, Information, Broadcasting, Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today.
