Priyanka Chopra had to turn to surrogacy out of necessity, and this is why she wasn’t able to get pregnant.
Priyanka Chopra married American singer and actor Nick Jonas in 2018. About five years later, in 2022 she welcomed their adorable daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas, through surrogacy.
After the birth of her daughter, Priyanka shared in an interview why she chose surrogacy to become a mother. She explained that she did not have any fertility issues, but she was dealing with other medical problems. Priyanka mentioned, “I had medical issues, so it became necessary for me to use surrogacy to become a mother. At that time, I was able to do it.” She also praised their surrogate mother, describing her as a lovely, kind, generous, and fun woman who took great care of their little girl for six months. Priyanka revealed that her daughter was born 12 weeks earlier than expected, which caused some complications for the baby. She faced significant criticism from people regarding her choice of surrogacy, as many did not understand the challenges she was going through at that time. Priyanka expressed, “People don’t know what kind of pain I was experiencing.” This is why she chose not to make her and her daughter’s medical history public, stating that it doesn’t mean anyone has the right to demand explanations. Some reports suggested that Priyanka had wanted to become a mother since her marriage, but her busy schedule made it difficult. In another interview, she clarified that when she froze her eggs, she was neither married nor dating Nick Jonas at that time.
