20 thousand metric tons of honey produced in KVIC’s ‘Honey Mission’

Bhopal: Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India organized various events on the occasion of ‘World Bee Day-2025’. This year’s event was based on the theme – “Inspired by Nature, Honeybees, Nurture Life of All”, which reinforces the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to move from “White Revolution to Sweet Revolution”. A grand event was organized in the presence of beekeeper beneficiaries, trainees, scientists, successful beekeepers, students and experts from various districts of Maharashtra. KVIC’s achievements in the field of beekeeping were shared. The event was not only a technical platform but also a live example of innovation, inspiration and self-reliance of rural India. The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, KVIC Chairman Shri Manoj Kumar in the presence of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ms. Roop Rashi.

KVIC Chairman Shri Manoj Kumar said in the function organized on Bee Day that “Bees are the backbone of our ecosystem. They not only provide honey, but also enrich our agriculture through pollination and protect the environment. The ‘Honey Mission’ started under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has today become a major source of livelihood in villages.” He said that when Prime Minister Shri Modi called for ‘Sweet Revolution’, he showed a new path in which honey production became a source of not only economic prosperity but also health prosperity. The work done by KVIC in this direction under his leadership is a big step towards self-reliant India.

While listing the achievements of ‘Honey Mission’, the KVIC Chairman said that so far 2,29,409 bee boxes and honey colonies have been distributed by KVIC across the country. This has produced about 20,000 metric tonnes of honey. Beekeepers have earned an income of about Rs 325 crore from this. He informed that in the financial year 2024-25, beekeepers associated with Honey Mission have also exported honey worth about Rs 25 crore abroad.

KVIC CEO Ms. Roop Rashi also addressed the participants. She said, “Honey Mission is not just a scheme but it is a holistic livelihood model. Today thousands of youth, women and farmers in rural areas are getting employment through this mission. She said that honey processing plants, training centres and marketing network run by KVIC have taken beekeeping towards self-sufficiency.”

In the program, scientists told that bees are not limited to honey production only, but about 75 percent of food crops are pollinated by bees. If bees are not there, then 30 percent of food crops and 90 percent of wild plant species can be in danger. In the program, beneficiaries from all parts of the country including Madhya Pradesh shared their success stories digitally. Dramas, poems, and essays presented by children in the program brought life to the program. KVIC officials, employees and other dignitaries were present in the program.
