West Bengal. At least 11 people died after being hit by lightning at different places in Malda district on Thursday. An officer gave this information. He told that many people have also been injured in these incidents. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed grief over the deaths and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. Banerjee said on ‘X’, “I express my condolences to the families who lost their loved ones due to lightning in Malda. I wish speedy recovery of the injured.
The official told PTI that the district administration has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of the deceased. He said, “11 people have died due to lightning. Many injured people are undergoing treatment in various hospitals. The condition of some of them is critical.
Police said that the deceased included two minors resident of Manichak police station area and three people resident of Sahapur of Mala police station area. According to the police, two other people were residents of Adina of Gazole police station area and Balupur of Ratua police station area.
Police said that a couple working in a field in Harishchandrapur also died due to lightning. According to the police, the rest of the people who lost their lives due to lightning were residents of Englishbazar and Manichak police station areas.
